LS&A Concentration Week, March 4-8, 2002

The College of LS&A requires students to declare a concentration by the end of the sophomore year. For many of you, this deadline is fast approaching. To assist students in their selection, the College is sponsoring Concentration Week. The different events are designed to aid you in your selection of a concentration or an academic minor.

Come to the LS&A LS&A Concentration Fair to get the information you need to make an informed choice about the programs in the College. Follow up these sessions with an appointment with a general advisor to discuss choosing a concentration, or if you are sure what you want to concentrate in, discuss those options with a program representative at the Fairs and follow up with a concentration advisor afterward.

LS&A Concentration Fair
Thursday, March 7, 11 am-3 pm
Michigan Union Ballroom

  • In search of a concentration or double concentration that's just right for you?
  • Interested in exploring LSA minors?

Film and Video Studies:
Dance on Camera Festival

Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m , March 8-9, 2002
Natural Sciences Auditorium
830 N. University (Across from Hill Auditorium)

For the first time in Ann Arbor, local audiences will be offered two screenings of recent and historical screen dance works, the hybrid art form that combines the craft and choreography of film/video editing and direction with the dynamics of dance and the moving body. Sponsored by U-M Program in Film and Video Studies and the Department of Dance, the festival features a sampler of the U-M Library's recent acquisitions and works direct from the Dance on Camera Festival 2002 at Lincoln Center in NYC.

Made specifically for the screen by artists from the USA, Australia, Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, and other international centers, these "dances for the screen" celebrate the inventive and telling interplay between the eye of the beholder and the human figure within the frame of the camera. The two different evenings of works feature such international festival entries as Dancers Go Bowling (Amanda Rabin/Michael DeMirjian), Elevator World (Mitchell Rose), Grand Central (Jeff Scher), Measure (33 Fainting Spells), A Very Dangerous Pastime (Canada Dance Festival)

Program A, shown on Friday, March 8, will include past winners of international festivals and other short works. On March 9, Program B features awarded works from this year's Dance On Camera Festival from the New York City Dance Films Association.

Admission is free.

The Dance on Camera Festival is co-sponsored by U-M Program in Film and Video Studies, Department of Dance, CRLT and the U-M School of Music and Media Union Libraries For more information, contact Prof. Peter sparling at petespar@umich.edu or 734-647-2288 or Terri Sarris tsarris@umich.edu or 734-764-5388.
