Courses in Natural Resources and Environment (Division 711)

301. Ecological Issues.
(4). (NS). (BS).
Ecological issues involve humans and their interactions with the environment. These interactions are often controversial and complex. Managing ecological issues requires a broad understanding of the natural, social, and policy sciences. This course will be organized into three broad thematic units: (1) Ecosystem science and bioregions; (2) Human impacts on ecosystems; and (3) Strategies for ecological sustainability. We will focus on both concepts and applications using lectures first, then small group discussions, and applied projects. Projects will emphasize a team approach to environmental problem solving. No prior experience in environmental science is required. (Zaber)
