Courses in Natural Resources and Environment (Division 711)
301. Ecological Issues. (4). (NS). (BS).
Most environmental problems are political. In this course we examine not only the ecological basis of environmental problems, but also the socio-economic and political constraints that need to be addressed to solve them. Topics covered include the loss of biodiversity, tropical deforestation, the environmental impacts of high technology, agriculture, environmental racism, air and water pollution, global warming, and the emergence of new diseases due to global environmental change. An action project is required.
