This course is intended for first-year students and is an examination of the modern American University and the roles and expectations of the different people within it. The course will challenge students to learn about the nature and history of the modern University as well as the roles they and others play in the enterprise of higher learning. Of particular focus will be the student’s own academic and maturational development as well as the challenges faced by the University community which is defined to include students, faculty, researchers, and administrators. There are no prerequisites and the course is taught in seminar format.
