registering
for your first term For many students, the highlight of orientation is registering for Fall courses. On the day before you are scheduled to register you will attend an afternoon workshop that will assist you in navigating the online resources that you will use to learn about and register for LS&A courses. Before you register, it is important to take full advantage of the LS&A Online Course Guide to learn more about the courses you would like to take. You should make a long list of these courses, and at a final meeting on the last day of orientation, you and your advisor will discuss your reasons for choosing particular courses. At this time, you may also want to consider campus resources (e.g., Science Learning Center study groups or Sweetland Writing Center tutors) that will assist you throughout the term with these courses. After this meeting, you will be ready to register online. You should then use WolverineAccess to search for the times, location, and availability of the courses that you have chosen. Once you have gathered all the relevant information and have been authorized to register, you can register for the Term using WolverineAccess. You should make it a habit to print your class schedule after registering, or making changes to your schedule, for your records. Once you have been authorized to register, it is easy to make changes by using WolverineAccess from any web browser. Academic Peer Advisors and Academic Advisors will be on hand to assist you with this process. The following resources are your keys to registration at the University of Michigan. Student
Academic Affairs Website The Student Academic Affairs website contains a wealth of information that you will need throughout your career in LS&A, including LS&A policies and procedures, information on how to contact your advisor, and the LS&A Online Course Guide. The SAA website also contains LS&A course description archives, online versions of the Parent and First-Year Handbooks, and much, much more. ![]()
A main feature of the SAA website, the LS&A Online Course Guide is an invaluable resource for finding out about the courses you'd like to register for. The Online Course Guide contains the most accurate and updated information about course offerings in LS&A. Use it to browse course offerings and descriptions in every LS&A department. Courses are also listed according to requirements they fulfill (e.g., Distribution, Introductory Composition & Upper-Level Writing, Language, R&E, and QR). Refer to the Online Course Guide for updated lists of open courses and waitlisting procedures for each class. The Online Course Guide also contains links to course descriptions offerred in other schools on campus.
Time Schedule The Registrar's Office publishes an online Time Schedule, where you can find course titles, times and locations for all courses taught at UM. This is useful once you know exactly which classes you want to take. It does not, however, contain course descriptions or information on course availability. Each term, a printed time schedule is also available.
