First, I want to extend a warm welcome to all of our international students into the Michigan family. You are joining a university which is among the leaders in the enrollment of international students in the United States. That so many international students choose the University of Michigan for their place of study speaks to the quality of education you will find here. You will earn a degree which is recognized worldwide.

Second, I would urge you, as an important member of the Michigan family, to take full advantage of the many opportunities the University has to offer. Those opportunities will present themselves not only in classrooms but also in the social interactions you will have with your classmates outside of class. In particular, I urge you to attend many of the cultural and musical opportunities in and around the campus and in the wider community of Ann Arbor. Your view of the world adds to the richness and diversity of our campus atmosphere. A world class university thrives on a diversity of opinions. We look forward to adding your thoughts and ideas to the already diverse mix which constitutes the University of Michigan.
