Welcome
Greetings
and welcome to the University of Michigan. You will find a varied
curriculum accompanied by out-of-class experiences to meet your
personal goals. Additionally, there are ample non-academic options
to enhance your undergraduate years. To guide you through these
exciting, and occasionally stressful times, the LS&A Academic
Advising Center provides information and assistance.
Many international
students at U-M face adjustments the first year. There may be
academic and social expectations here which are different from
what you have experienced in the past. I suggest that you evaluate
carefully (and early) the level of performance your instructors
anticipate. Read over the syllabus in each course. You may find
classes in which a portion of the prerequisite information has
been covered in your previous courses but still may require additional
study to meet the present demands. If you have any questions
or concerns, please discuss them promptly with your advisor.
Naturally you will be adjusting outside the classroom as well.
There are many rules and complex procedures which you will master
in making your way through the system at U-M. Again, please use
the expertise of your advisor in assuring a successful transition.
All of us in the
Academic Advising Center wish you the best during your undergraduate
years and look forward to the privilege of working with you.
Sincerely

Alice G. Reinarz,
