POLISH 121. First-Year Polish.: (Language); (4). (LR).; Introductory course presenting basic grammatical information complemented with oral drills. Students also work independently in the language laboratory to improve speaking and aural skills.
POLISH 122. First-Year Polish.: (Language); Polish 121. (4). (LR).; Continuation of Polish 121. Presentation of basic grammatical information, with exercises in reading, writing, and speaking.
POLISH 221. Second-Year Polish.: (Language); Polish 122. (4). (LR).; A balanced approach to the development of advanced reading, writing, and speaking skills.

POLISH 321. Third-Year Polish.: (Language); Polish 222. (3). (Excl).; The course builds on the knowledge of Polish acquired during the first and second years. Equal emphasis is laid on the development of reading, writing, and speaking skills. Considerable attention is given to special points of grammar and syntax. Aural comprehension is enhanced through the use of videotaped films in the language laboratory.

POLISH 325(425). Polish Literature in English to 1890.: (Literature); (3). (HU).; An historical survey of Polish literature from its origin to 1900. This course is designed as an introduction for the non-specialist with a serious interest in Polish culture and literature. All readings in English.
POLISH 326(426). Polish Literature in English: 1890 to Present.: (Literature); (3). (HU).; A study of the major trends in modern Polish literature from 1900 to present, with examination of representative works by nineteenth and twentieth century Polish writers. Polish literature is presented in the context of European literature as well as in relation to Poland's peculiar historical and political situation. All readings in English.
POLISH 432. Topics in Polish Literature.: (Literature); Juniors, Seniors, and Graduate students. A knowledge of Polish is not required. (2). (Excl). May be repeated for a total of six credits.; A course for advanced undergraduates and graduate students on selected topics from Polish literature. The topics vary from term to term. For the current topic, consult the instructor or Slavic Department.
POLISH 450. Directed Polish Reading.: (Literature); Permission of instructor. (1-3). (Excl). (INDEPENDENT).; Extensive reading of Polish texts in various fields.
