An introduction to the reading, writing, and speaking skills of modern demotic Greek, approached through oral-aural training and systematic study of grammar.

102. Elementary Modern Greek, II. Modern Greek 101. Graduate students should elect Modern Greek 502. (4). (LR).
A continuation of Elementary Modern Greek 101 with readings from demotic prose and poetry.

201. Second Year Modern Greek I. Modern Greek 102. Graduate students should elect Modern Greek 503. (4). (LR).
Designed to improve the speaking, reading and writing as well as listening skills of students.

202. Second Year Modern Greek, II. Modern Greek 201. Graduate students should elect Modern Greek 504. (4). (LR).
Focuses on expanding vocabulary through reading more complex journalistic prose and literary texts (20th century poetry and prose) and discussion of those texts. Special attention is paid to the historical depth of the language through etymology.

599. Supervised Reading in Greek. Permission of instructor. (1-4). (Excl). (INDEPENDENT). May be repeated for credit.
Regular reports and conferences required.
