Geog. 201/Geol. 201. Introductory Geography: Water, Climate, and Mankind.

No credit granted to those who have completed or are enrolled in GS 144 (or 268). Those with credit for GS 111 may only elect Geog. 201 for 3 credits. (4; 3 in the half-term). (NS). (BS).

Introduction to hydrology and climatology. Emphasizes the study of maps, seasons, time, atmosphere, radiation, heat balance, circulation, moisture, precipitation, changes in climate (glaciers), air masses (fronts) and water supply.

Geog. 406/Urban Planning 406. Introduction to Geographic Information Systems.

(3; 2 in the half-term). (Excl). Laboratory fee ($20) required.

An introduction to geographic information systems and related technologies. Covers basic principles and concepts of GIS, theory and tools of spatial analysis, and a broad exposure to GIS applications. Contents include map analysis, hardware/software, nature of spatial data, data sources, etc.

Geog. 432/Urban Planning 532. Sustainable Environments: International Perspectives.

An inquiry in to alternative views of the environment that have been used to find value in nature, and to draw sustenance, wealth, and power from nature. The failures and conflicts that abound in these efforts have accumulated to a degree that they now pose global threats. We seek pragmatic approaches for solutions to these problems.

Geog. 472/Urban Planning 572. Transportation and Land Use Planning.

Explores transportation /land use interactions and their relevance to the transportation planning process. Themes include planning alternatives for regional mobility, transportation planning, and the environment, and analysis of modal choice.

Individual project under the direction of a faculty member enables student to pursue a course of study not included in organized courses offered by the Geography program.
