- The personal, political, and philosophical roles of community service and service learning in the university and the world. Students will perform and reflect upon a service activity of their choosing. A strong writing component forms part of the course.

- Participation in Lloyd Hall Scholars Program. (1). (Excl).
- The University as a site of academic and professional growth and development. Students explore the resources of our world-class educational institution, and learn how to navigate the multitude of options available to them, and how to use them to best advantage.

- Lloyd Hall Scholars. (3). (Excl). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars seminar on issues of individual growth and adjustment in the context of the problems and forces experienced in contemporary society. There is a dual emphasis on theoretical understanding and self-knowledge.

- Lloyd Hall Scholars seminar on selected issues in social and political history. This seminar focuses on historical phenomena that hold particular promise for illuminating contemporary issues.

- The relation of literary and artistic expression to social values; the management of conflict when agendas collide, and the mechanics of values clarification in such instances.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 116. Literature and the Social Order I.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars. (3). (Excl). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars seminar on literary studies organized by theme and connection with social issues. This seminar often focuses upon literature originating in groups whose artistic creations tend to be less well represented in the standard curriculum.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 118. Cross-Cultural Studies I.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars. (3). (Excl). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars seminar in cross-cultural studies. This seminar is intended to expand the cultural range of the student's knowledge and appreciations. The focus shifts with the background and expertise of the program's teaching Resident Fellows.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 120. Political and Social Problems I.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars. (3). (Excl). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars seminar on public issues. This seminar, in its various sections, examines difficult and important problems in the realms of the environment, domestic politics, group relations, welfare and economics, and international affairs. The focus is sharp and well-defined in order to provide the student with the thorough knowledge of the problem that is chosen. When appropriate, manifestations of larger problems in the Ann Arbor community are explored.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 125(165). College Writing.
- (4). (Introductory Composition). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- This course emphasizes argumentative writing and related skills that are needed for success in college work. Various themes are determined by the instructors who come from many different academic backgrounds. This course makes full use of the close living-learning environment of the Lloyd Hall Scholars Program.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 140. Arts and Humanities.
- (3). (CE). May be repeated for a total of six credits. A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- A studio course in drawing and painting, combined with an introduction to the concepts and language of art criticism. Students will develop skills in drawing and painting, do research on topics in art history and theory, and write short essays on the whole process.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 151. Focused Studies.
- Permission of instructor. (1). (Excl). May be repeated for a total of three credits. A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.

- Lloyd Hall Scholars 200. Advanced Leadership and Service Learning.
- Sophomore standing and participation in Lloyd Hall Scholars Program. No credit granted to those who have completed LHSP 100. (1). (Excl).
- The personal, political, and philosophical roles of community service and service learning in the University, the community, and the world. Second-year students perform and reflect upon a service activity of their choosing, mentoring first year students in the process. A strong writing component forms part of the course.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 201. Advanced Academic and Professional Development.
- Sophomore standing and participation in Lloyd Hall Scholars Program. Required of all second-year students in the Lloyd Hall Scholars Program.No credit granted to those who have completed LHSP 101. (1). (Excl).
- This course focuses upon personal and professional growth, using a guided series of workshops and seminars, in tandem with individual research, to explore the richness of University resources in the fields of academic and professional development and preparation. There is a writing component.
- Lloyd Hall Scholars 229/English 229. Technical Writing.
- Completion of the introductory composition requirement. (4). (HU). A maximum of 20 Lloyd Hall Scholars Program credits may be counted toward a degree.
- A straightforward approach to the practicalities of writing clear descriptive and explanatory prose whose subject matter is centered on process and sequence.
