Elementary and Intermediate Language Courses

201. Elementary Modern Standard Arabic. (6). (FL).

This course provides an introduction to the sounds and writing systems of modern standard Arabic and basic vocabulary and fundamental grammatical structure. It offers combined training in listening, speaking, reading and writing. The students are provided with opportunities to practice Arabic through the use of highly structured drills and supplementary communicative activities and games. The course will meet four hours daily MTWTHF for a total of eight undergraduate term credit hours. The course will cover the equivalent of one year's work at the regular rate or of one term's work at the intensive level. Extra-curricular activities include walking tours to places of interest, social gatherings and trips to Arab quarters in Dearborn and Detroit. [Cost:2] (Khoury and Bergman)
