301. Ecological Issues. (4). (NS). (BS).
Ecological issues involve humans and their interactions with the environment. These interactions are often controversial and complex. Managing ecological issues requires a broad understanding of the natural, social, and policy sciences. This course will be organized into three broad thematic units: (1) Ecosystem science and bioregions; (2) Human impacts on ecosystems; and (3) Strategies for ecological sustainability. we will focus on both concepts and applications using lectures first, then small group discussions, and applied projects. Projects will emphasize a team approach to environmental problem solving. No prior experience in environmental science is required. (Zaber & Duncan)
