SWC 105(ECB 105). Writing Practicum.


Prerequisites & Distribution: Any combination of SWC 100-105 may be elected for a total of four credits. (2). (Excl). Offered mandatory credit/no credit. (TUTORIAL). May be repeated for credit for a maximum of 4 credits.

Practicum students develop writing skills that allow them to take full advantage of their experiences in Michigan courses. Students will gain practice and experience in:

  1. writing as a process of drafting and revising;
  2. reading and writing analytically;
  3. developing a writer's voice, which includes distinguishing between their ideas and those of others;
  4. studying models of writing of the kind they are expected to produce;
  5. using the computer to draft and revise papers and to talk about writing; and
  6. attending to grammar and mechanics.

Classes meet four hours per week. Each student receives an additional half-hour of individual instruction every other week in a conference with the instructor. Practicum is not graded but does earn two course credits. Class enrollment is limited to 18 students.
