This course is the second of a two term biophysical chemistry series, Biophysics 520/521. The course can be taken without taking Biophysics 520. Biophysics 521 gives an overview of the spectroscopical techniques UV/Vis, IR, Raman, CD Mossbauer, Exafs, EPR and ESEEM. Structure determination by X-ray diffraction and two-dimensional will be treated in fair detail. Stopped-flow kinetics techniques are introduced. Electron, light and scanning microscopies and optical tweezers will be introduced. Ultracentrifugation, plasmon, resonance, mass spectrometry and calorimetry will be discussed. Lab techniques such as chromatography, electrophoresis, protein expression and site-directed mutagenesis will be introduced.
