491. Proseminar on the Arab World. (3). (Excl).
The theme of this course is Islam and the State in the Arab world. The class will be run in conjunction with a lecture series on "Islam and the State" and will feature lectures by distinguished Middle Eastern scholars including R. Stephen Humphreys, Judith Tucker, Julia Clancy-Smith, Kenneth Cuno, Charles D. Smith and others. There are no prerequisites. Student evaluations will be based on summary papers and a final term paper. There will be weekly reading assignments in addition to one general text. Cost:1 WL:1 (Bonner)
