A continuation of Polish 121, First-Year Polish aims at establishing reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. Class time is spent on explaining grammar, reading, building vocabulary, and guided conversation. In addition to learning the language, students are introduced to Polish literature and culture through translation, music and video presentations. Homework consists of studying new vocabulary, memorizing structures, and writing exercises.

This course builds on work done in Polish 221, and assumes a good knowledge of the grammatical structure of the language. Emphasis is placed first on speaking and writing and secondly on reading skills.

This course is designed to develop reading, writing, and speaking skills. Its particular emphasis is on conversational Polish. Texts cover a wide range from literature and essays to newspaper articles, political pamphlets, jokes, and films. Students are evaluated on the basis of oral and written reports, and a final examination.

This is a continuation of Polish 425, although there is no prerequisite. The course covers the period from mid-nineteenth century until the present. It surveys the development of Polish authors and major literary movements. Individual critical analyses of texts required. A knowledge of Polish is NOT required. All reading in English translation. Can NOT be taken as a tutorial.
