Center for Russian and East European
Studies (REES)
(November 3, 1975)
(Reaffirmed: December, 1992)
The following grade appeal procedure has been approved by the Executive
Committee for Russian and East European Studies.
Center Director requests aggrieved student to discuss matter with the faculty
member responsible. If satisfaction is not received, student should submit
in writing to the Center Director the particulars of this complaint. The
details should be made available to the faculty member responsible, and
he and Center Director should discuss the matter. If the faculty member
and Center Director decide that the complaint is invalid, the complainant
is to be so informed and the matter turned over to an ad hoc committee,
chaired by the Center Director, consisting of two members of the Center
Executive Committee, appointed by the Director, two students from the B.A.
or M.A. program (depending upon level of complaining student), selected
by the complainant. The complainant shall present his/her case in the presence
of the responsible professor, who may then respond. The student will have
the right to the ultimate presentation. When both sides have been heard,
the ad hoc committee will render a decision on majority vote. In
case of a tie, the Director's vote shall be decisive.
