the problem. Dr. Rappaport shall review the statement and speak with the
student concerning formal and informal grievance procedures.
- The student shall have a choice between a formal or an informal meeting.
- If an informal meeting is decided upon, times and dates shall be set
by Dr. Rappaport's office staff. Dr. Rappaport may mediate if the student
so wishes. If a formal meeting is decided upon, the student will present
his grievance at the most immediate meeting of the Committee on Studies
in Religion. The Committee meets at least once a semester, but additional
meetings may be called when circumstances require it.
- Whether formal or informal, the student, professor, and mediator (or
mediating group) shall be present at the meeting.
- All disputed course work shall be available to the group.
- The mediators shall recommend, after listening to the student and
the instructor, whether the student's grade should be changed, or, as alternative
whether the student should be given an incomplete, partial credit for the
course, or some other special arrangement.
- The instructor has the final say on the grade.
- The mediators shall report to the LS&A Office of Student Academic Affairs
the conclusions of the meeting.
