SAC 372
Contemporary Film Theory
An examination of contemporary approaches to film theory. This course will explore how different theories and resulting methods of analysis built on structuralist and post-structuralist presuppositions and paradigms have influenced recent film theory and its consideration of narrative practice, and psychological experience of viewing, the construction of moving image representations, and the impact of technology on aesthetic practice. Although we will concentrate on dominant trends, students will also be encouraged to consider alternative theoretical paradigms (such as phenomenology and cognitive approaches to viewing).
