The purpose of this class is to interrogate how we define and understand television -as a medium, an institution, an apparatus, a cultural force, a source of knowledge and pleasure-by looking at several critical and theoretical approaches that attempt to explain its importance as a late 20 th century phenomenon whose impact is still going strong during this new millennium. Most important, this class aims to develop further your televisual literacy by introducing different frameworks that will help you read and engage television from a critical perspective-without attempting to diminish the your enjoyment of TV texts.
