SAC 376

Digital Media Theory

This course surveys the major theories of digital media culture from theories of media convergence to "cyberfeminist" analysis of identity politics and accounts of the formal properties of digital media. Students will read and discuss theories of media from key philosophers like Martin Heidegger, Michel Foucault, Marshall McLahan, Paul Virilio, and jean Baudrillard alongside the work of contemporary theorists and scholars of digital media. Students will develop a functioning lexicon for these forms of mediation and develop the critical tools necessary to understand, critique and respond to digital media. 3 Credits.
