Garnet R. Garrison Scholarship

AWARDS UP TO $1,000.00

Established in 1978 on the occasion of Professor Garrison’s retirement the scholarship was the result of endowment gifts from former students and colleagues at the University of Michigan. At the recommendation of Professor Garrison this award(s) is for Senior Honors candidates who would use the scholarship stipend to help defray the cost of preparing the Honors thesis – either research costs or the costs of a creative production project or screenplay.

To compete for these awards, you should submit the following:
(a) A completed application form including the name and phone number of a faculty reference in the Program in Film and Video Studies with whom you have worked.
(b) An unofficial copy of your transcript
(c) For a production application: a one-page treatment for a new project or a work-in-progress, and the script, if available. For scriptwriting proposals: a writing sample demonstrating that the applicant understands the conventions of scriptwriting and a short synopsis detailing the proposed script’s plot, approach, theme, major characters, length, etc.
(d) A budget detailing expenses.
(e) For production applications: two samples, and no more than two, of past film, video or digital work on VHS videotape. (If, however, you are seeking funds for a work-in-progress you may submit evidence of work completed at the time of the application. This will be counted as one of your two samples.) A sample description page (see Guidelines) MUST accompany sample work.
