Location: 330 East Liberty , 4 th Floor, Michigan Square Building
Maintained by
LSA Media Services, there are 18 editing suites
that put state-of-the-art digital post-production
technology
in the hands of the students.
These suites are used by the digital video classes and the advanced film classes whose film negatives are "telecined" to digital video for editing. Working on high-end Macintosh computers, students can edit their images and soundtracks using such programs as Appple's Final Cut Pro Studio 5, Adobe After Effects,
Digidesign Pro Tools, etc. Emulating current industry standards, these stations are equipped
with widw screen or dual-screen computer monitors as well
as NTSC reference monitors, providing an
ideal blend of workability and accuracy needed for advanced work in a digital
environment.
Screen Arts & Cultures production Studio, Equipment, and TV Studio are now located in the Argus II building 400 Fourth Street.
SAC Equipment Room
The Film Equipment Room within the Argus II Building has over 30, 16mm motion-picture
cameras available for student use. Introductory film classes use Canon Scoopic, Arri-16S and Bolex cameras. We are currently replacing our older sound cameras with more recent Arri-SR Super-16 cameras. This gives our students access to state-of-the-art, wide-screen camera packages that would rent commericially for over $1,000 per day. Our traditional Nagra 4.2 sound recorders are also being replaced with digital Fostex FR-2TC recorders. We offer
a large supply of motion-picture lighting and grip equipment made by companies such
as Mole-Richardson, Arriflex, Matthews and Avenger. Additionally, we have high-quality Sachtlar, Cartoni and Miller camera
support systems, dollies and a large assortment of filters and gels.
Located in the Argus II Building, this sound stage is used extensively for both workshops and in-class shoots at all levels of production. The studio features aprofessional lighting grid complete with a full complement of lighting fixtures and grip equipment, a Elemack Movietech crab dolly, a "green screen" for chroma-key work, and a variety of props. This studio provides space for our collaborations with the Theatre Department, in which the advanced film production classes get the opportunity to work with the"Acting for the Camera" classes.
These suites provide bench-editing facilities for each production team in the introductory filmmaking classes, giving students a private environment that allows each team unlimited access to editing facilities. Complete with viewers, rewinds and bins, these stations allow students to 16mm silent films using traditionalediting methods. They also prepare a digitally edited non-synchronous sound track to accompany their film. Students will see their work projected in its original form and begin to experience and understand the properties of the film medium, a unique opportunity at the undergraduate level.
This facility features two studios,
3800 sq. ft and 2000 sq. ft. for
use in program
related classes. A full time professional
staff (Engineering,
staging & lighting) assist
the students. Equipment includes: Sony DXC D35 digital cameras,
Echo Lab 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 ME production switchers, and Compix media
CG/graphics machines.
