Program
Description:
The
Moody Exchange Scholars Program is designed to assist South
Africa
in cultivating its next generation of
scholars by bringing
them to the University of Michigan for periods of
up to three months. At the University of Michigan, they
have access to
library and research materials that can assist them
in the completion of their research or degrees. They
also
are paired
with a University of Michigan faculty member with
similar interests for the possibility of collaboration
on
projects
that will
help them advance their careers.
Award:
Moody
Exchange Scholars will be provided with round-trip airfare
from South Africa to Ann Arbor, Michigan
and a stipend to cover
living, housing, and research expenses during
their tenure at the University of Michigan. Our
office will
assist
scholars with
locating affordable housing in the area. In
addition, each scholar will be provided with office space
and a computer. Each scholar
will also have access to e-mail, and all University
of Michigan libraries and facilities.
Eligibility
Requirements:
• Must
be a graduate student enrolled in a South African college or
university, OR
• Must have recently completed the doctorate and be making progress toward
the publication of research.
• Must have a genuine interest in using knowledge gained from research
to help find solutions to problems facing South Africa.

Application Requirements:
• General
Information form.
• Typed Essay.
Essay should include the following:
- Description of a clearly developed research project
- Explanation of how such research will contribute to South Africa’s
development
- Explanation of how the University of Michigan can be an asset to your research
- Plans for publication or presentation (if any)
• Curriculum Vitae.
• Three letters of recommendation.
