Description:
The
South Africa Initiatives Office provides small grants for
University of Michigan faculty and graduate students
to conduct
independent or collaborative research in South
Africa. Select University of Michigan graduate students
will be partially supported in research for their
master’s
thesis or dissertation research activities. Faculty
members may also
apply for grants to conduct research leading to
scholarly publication or presentations.
All recipients of SAIO research grants will be expected to share
their research and findings with the University of Michigan community
through symposia, Brown Bags, or other presentations.
Award:
The
selection committee will select grant recipients and determine
the level of funding on a case-by-case
basis. Grants can be used
for travel or research-related expenses in South
Africa.
SAIO Grants have been made possible through funding
from the Rackham School of Graduate Studies, the
Office of the Vice Provost
for Research, and the SAIO Gift Fund. While these
grants may cover some research and travel-related
expenses, they are not
intended to cover all expenses. Applicants are
encouraged to seek other sources of funding to supplement
these
awards.
Eligibility:
