Semester in Detroit is now accepting Winter 2014 applications on a rolling basis. However, students who apply to the Winter 2014 Program by May 11, 2013 will be considered for a $1,000 SID scholarship and will secure their spot in the program. No additional application materials are necessary to qualify for this scholarship.

Application Overview for Spring 2013 Program

The Spring application deadline has passed. Applicants, please note these important dates for the Spring 2013 program:

*Required: if you are accepted into Semester in Detroit, you must reserve this date for required program activities.

Program Eligibility:

The Semester in Detroit program accepts undergraduate students (second year/sophomore and older) from all schools and departments at the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (and from the UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint Campuses). Completion of the winter program plus one additional required course will meet the requirements for a minor in Urban Studies through the College of Literature, Science and the Arts at the UM-Ann Arbor campus (not applicable to UM-Dearborn and UM-Flint students).

The most successful program participants typically have at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA [Note: those with less than a 3.0 GPA are still eligible to apply but must explain their particular situation.] Applicants should have a strong interest in the city of Detroit and in community-service learning.

Application Process:

We are now accepting applications for the Winter 2014 semester.  Only 25 students will be accepted into the program. If the program becomes full, a wait list will be used based on the order by which students applied and were accepted into the program.
