           So a new day of travel began.
           We drank tomato juice and coffee from thick mugs and ate "ham and egg" (scrambled eggs with a piece of ham) in the small Main Street cafe, deserted and sleepy at that hour, and got in the car. Mister Adams had been waiting for that moment.
           He turned to us and began to speak.
