Josef
Herčík (1922-1999), a graphic artist and engraver, lived and
worked for most of his life in Prague. He portrayed the city’s
architectural monuments in a series of engravings. Prague
and especially its Castle fascinated him and served as an
infinite and unlimited source of inspiration. His work includes
numerous book illustrations, portraits, heraldic series, series
of flowers and more than 350 stamp-engravings.
Herčík’s
engravings as well as his illustrations in the Short Introduction
to Czech History are presented here thanks to the permission
granted by his wife Helena Herčíková.
