Slavic-Judaic Cultural Relations
 

Assistant Professor in Jewish-Slavic Cultural Relations
Frankel Center for Judaic Studies and Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures, University of Michigan

The Jean and Samuel Frankel Center for Judaic Studies and the Department of Slavic Languages and Literatures wish to make a tenure-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Jewish-Slavic cultural relations.  Ph.D. and proficiency in the relevant subset of the languages of Central and/or Eastern Europe at native- or near native-level required.  Duties will include: teaching and research in Jewish-Slavic cultural interaction in the framework of cultural history broadly defined.  Subfields may include issues of ethnicity, cultural contact in a multiethnic environment (including aspects of music, literature and the arts), and the role of language and language policies in a multiethnic context. Interest in non-canonical perspectives welcome. The successful candidate will demonstrate firm commitment to research and publication in the indicated areas.  Ability to teach and do interdisciplinary and comparative research required.
