Mila is a Ph.D. pre-candidate working on a degree in Russian Literature. She holds a Master degree in Russian Philology and a Bachelor degree in English Language and Literature from University of Sofia, Bulgaria. She received her second Master’s degree in Russian Literature from University of Michigan in 2003. Mila’s research interests include the social and cultural processes within fin-de-siècle Russia and the modes of their appropriation by theatrical and dramaturgical discourses. Special attention is being paid to the issue of marginality. The hierarchy of values of the period in question is entirely shattered which changes the boundaries of the previously established and functioning framework of individual and societal behavior. The concept of marginality and marginalization as a functional tool will be used to scrutinize the process of self-reflection and self-identification of the fin-de siècle individual as well as to discuss the spatial alternation of the social and cultural forms: hesitation between high and low, center and periphery, fictional and real, social and private. Mila teaches first- and second –year Russian courses during the academic year as well as for the Summer Language Institute. She received an Outstanding Graduate Student Instructor Award of the Department of Slavic Literatures and Languages for 2003-2004 as well as an Outstanding Graduate Instructor Award of Horace H. Rackam School of Graduate Studies for 2003-2004. Mila also won a Margaret Dow Towsley Scholarship for 2004-2005 (Center for the Education of Women, University of Michigan).
