Jessica holds a BA in English Literature from the University of California, Berkeley. Following graduation she spent two years as a Peace Corps volunteer in Ukraine. Jessica's research is interdisciplinary in nature and includes transnational feminisms, post-subcultures, and comparative approaches to the nation through art and protest. While her primary focus is on 20th century Polish-Ukrainian exchanges, she is also interested in contemporary authors and actors who conflate global, post-soviet, east-west identities. She is particularly interested in "the periphery" as a site where gender and sexuality, age, and urban/rural publics are inscribed and transposed. When she is not working on her studies Jessica also enjoys writing poetry and short fiction.
