    Since the Department’s founding more than 75 years ago, Michigan sociology has been a leader in innovative research that seeks to address core intellectual questions confronting the discipline while also helping to solve pressing social problems facing American society and the world at large. Our distinguished alumni have made important and enduring contributions in virtually all walks of life, from academics to business to public service and beyond.
