My current project grows out of several years spent working on a longitudinal survey project about young women's relationships and sexual experiences at UM's Institute for Social Research. My focus extends to women in the study with non-hetero sexualities (along the axes of behavior, attraction, and identity). I am interested in: (1) developing new theory to help understand the prevalence of reports of same-sex behavior in the absence of identity or attraction, and (2) contributing new insight into the motivations, experiences, and perspectives of non-hetero women participating in demographic research.
Broadly, I aim to strengthen connections between qualitative and survey-based approaches to studying young women's sexualities (including improving questionnaire design and the inclusion of non-hetero subjects), and develop integrative theories of bisexuality and fluidity that better account for the complexity of real women's lives.
