  • About

Professor Neuman's research and teaching span two fields in communications: behavioral research on communication effects with a focus on political communication and new media technology and policy with a focus on the social and political impacts of new media diffusion. His studies Common Knowledge and Affective Intelligence combine content analysis, survey, and experimental research methods to try to better understand the dynamics of public attention to and learning from political media. The Future of the Mass Audience and The Gordian Knot analyze how the digital convergence of electronic media (including telecommunications, broadcasting, publishing and computing) leads to deregulation and economic restructuring of media institutions. Professor Neuman recently worked on information and security technology policy at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy
