    Greta Krippner is a historical sociologist with substantive research interests in the areas of economic sociology, political sociology, and social theory.  Her research examines historical transformations in the relationship between markets and political institutions in U.S. society, with a particular focus on the mid- to late-twentieth century.   Her first book, Capitalizing on Crisis: The Political Origins of the Rise of Finance (Harvard 2011), examines the financialization of the U.S. economy in the decades since the 1970s.  Her new book project explores the problem of market freedom in U.S. society in the era of Civil Rights.
