  I am interested in mechanisms underlying formation of marriage, especially how the macro social changes or social contexts result in the shifting patterns of marital choices.  Currently, I am mainly working on three research projects: trends of marital age homogamy at different stages of economic reforms in China (with Yu Xie); influence of local ethnic marriage market conditions on Chinese Muslim's marital choices (with Xiwei Wu); and differences in family attitudes and behaviors between Chinese Muslim and Han Majority in Gansu, China (with Qing Lai and Yu Xie).
