The main focus of my research lies primarily at the intersection of U.S. foreign policy, development, and social change. I am currently working on a project that examines both the short- and long-term effects of U.S. public diplomacy initiatives—specifically, international educational exchange programs. This work not only provides a rigorous evaluation of existing programs, but it also examines attitude and value change among participants and better unpacks an important diffusion mechanism for Western ideas of development.
I am also working on two other projects, the first of which looks at the role that ethnic organizations and associations—such as cultural centers, language schools, and summer camps—play in the lives of those who self-identify as second-, third-, and fourth-generation European-Americans. I am also involved in a larger collaborative project to study how international migration affects human security and patterns of international influence within Eurasia.
