Prior to the start of my PhD program, I spent the better part of a decade living and working in four countries of the Former Soviet Union, first as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in Kazakhstan and Russia, and later managing the country offices of DC-based non-profits in Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.
