• About

  I am interested in the medicalization of women's reproductive health and its effects on the construction of women's bodies. My dissertation research is an ethnographic study that compares two groups working in maternity care: International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and DONA International Birth Doulas. I examine their strategies for navigating occupational boundaries within the medical maternity system and how these strategies are impacted by the medicalization of childbirth and breastfeeding. I also investigate how these strategies influence the methods available to each for creating change in maternity care practices.
