Internship Credit

The Department of Sociology supports internships opportunities for concentrators by offering one academic credit (SOC 396) per internship for academically relevant experiences. SOC 396 is counted toward the concentration as elective credit. Only declared sociology concentrators are eligible to apply for this credit.

A student applies for internship credit by completing the application and providing the following materials:

  1. a one-page, double-spaced description of the internship experience,
  2. a one-page, double-spaced description of how the student intends to examine their internship experiences in the context of sociology, and
  3. a five-to-seven item bibliography of sociologically relevant literature that will serve as the basis for the student's extended examination of the internship experience (in a paper due at the completion of the internship).
These materials should be submitted at least 3 weeks prior to the internship start date.

After the sociology concentration advisor receives the application, it will be evaluated by the Department of Sociology's undergraduate director. The student will be notified of the decision via email and receive an override to register for SOC 396 if the application is approved.
