Special Opportunities
The study of sociology cannot be contained within a classroom’s four
walls. Whether it’s researching a global issue like poverty and war, or
building one-on-one relationships at the community level, the applications of
sociology are sometimes best understood through first-hand exploration.
As a Michigan Sociology student, you’ll have the opportunity to add a
real world perspective to your classroom studies by participating in field study
work through our Project Community program, conducting
undergraduate research , independent
study and pursuing internship experiences.
For qualified students who wish to tackle a highly rigorous course of
study and complete a thesis, Michigan offers an undergraduate honors
program.
Every year the department hosts a reception for our graduating sociology concentrators.
The reception is held on the Friday of graduation weekend from 2-4pm. Graduating seniors
and their families receive more detailed information about the event in mid-March. The
program includes words from the department
chair, undergraduate director and honors coordinator. One sociology concentrator is chosen
to give a brief
speech at the reception
as well. Check out the photos from last year's event.
