Getting An Audit

Having your record audited is required for graduation.   An audit is a report that states which degree requirements you have fulfilled and which you still need to complete to earn your degree.  To receive an audit, you must do the following:

For Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, or Bachelor of Science in Chemistry (BS Chem) degree candidates:

  1. Submit a concentration release form for each of your concentrations and a minor release form for each of your minors to the LSA Academic Auditing Office*.  You can either turn them into our office in person (G255B Angell Hall), put them in the drop box outside our door or have your concentration advisor email our office directly at lsa.auditors@umich.edu with the information.
  2. Apply for graduation on Wolverine Access under "Student Business."

*To complete your release forms, you should contact your department(s) to set up advising appointments with your concentration and minor advisors.  Please make sure you include your name and UM ID # on your release forms and see that they are signed by you and your advisor; unsigned release forms will not be processed.  Also make sure you read the front of the release form and complete it where indicated.  If you need help filling it out, please see an LSA advisor.

For Bachelor in General Studies (BGS) degree candidates:  To receive your audit you must fill out a declaration form declaring a BGS by visiting the Academic Advising Center.  Then, apply for graduation on Wolverine Access.

Once we have received all of your release forms and your completed application online in Wolverine Access, the Academic Auditors' Office will e-mail the results of your audit to your umich.edu e-mail account within 2 weeks.  Please note that at certain times of the year it may take longer for the Academic Auditors Office to e-mail your audit due to either the finalization of degrees or the large volume of audits requests being received.  If you do not hear from the our office by this time, you should contact us at lsa.auditors@umich.edu to make sure your forms were received.

YOUR AUDIT LETTER IS AN OFFICIAL UNIVERSITY DOCUMENT. PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW IT CAREFULLY because the information in your audit letter is what we use to clear you for graduation.  Your current courses will not be used to fulfill degree requirements until final grades for those courses appear on your transcript. If you are taking courses for your concentration or minor other than the ones listed in your audit, have your advisor e-mail an approval of the change to lsa.auditors@umich.edu.   If you have any questions or believe there is a mistake in your audit letter, please e-mail lsa.auditors@umich.edu and an auditor will respond to your e-mail within 1-2 business days.
