In 1997, the College of Literature, Science and the Arts (LSA) established the Gayle Morris Sweetland Writing Center to ensure that all LSA graduates leave the University of Michigan with the ability to write well. Founded on the concept that writing is central to the mission of LSA, Sweetland takes a comprehensive approach to its mission by tutoring students in their writing, training upper-level undergraduates to be peer tutors, preparing Graduate Student Instructors to teach writing in the disciplines, supporting faculty in their course development, and conducting research on writing and tutoring pedagogy.
