WRITING 410
This course is not offered in the Fall 2013 term.
Quantitative Analysis and Writing in the Disciplines
In an academic setting, information represented in numbers is typically examined in courses separate from the courses that analyze information represented in language. In real world settings, however, understanding information, with all its persuasive effects, often involves the analysis of both the rhetorical use of numbers and the rhetorical use of language. This course, in various disciplinary iterations, will provide instruction in logic and reasoning in both numbers and language. Using traditional theoretical approaches to the study of problems in the sciences, social sciences and the humanities, this course will also expose students to basic quantitative methods in those disciplines, and use those methods toward a better understanding of how numerical, visual and linguistic data is communicated, interpreted and disseminated.
