The Sweetland Center for Writing supplements formal writing instruction by providing free programs that help students understand assignments, develop ideas, support arguments and claims, integrate new media, cite sources, and revise at the paragraph and sentence level. Sweetland Writing Workshop faculty are University of Michigan writing instructors who meet with students one-on-one to discuss their writing for UM courses and programs.
Peer Tutors are upper-level undergraduates who have received extensive training to work one-on-one with other students on their writing. Undergraduates can visit the Peer Tutoring Centers on a walk-in basis during their hours of operation.
Undergraduates can submit writing online to the Online Writing Lab (OWL) and receive written comments and suggestions from trained Peer Tutors within 72 hours.
The Dissertation Writing Institute offers work time and space to graduate students writing their dissertations, as well as a stipend, group workshops with other dissertators, and individual feedback from the Institute leaders.
The Sweetland Center for Writing Fellows Seminar brings together graduate student instructors (Junior Fellows) and faculty (Senior Fellows) who share a commitment to integrating writing into their courses.
