Graduate Student Writing Groups
In collaboration with Rackham, the Sweetland Center for Writing will offer ten student lead, faculty-mentored, small writing groups for graduate students. Applications for student group leaders and participants must be submitted by Monday, December 5th, 2011.
Departments may nominate small group leaders via this Leader Certification form, then nominated leaders may fill out the online Group Leader Application. Participants do not need to be nominated, and may fill out this online Participant Application.
The aim of this program is to provide structured writing support in a facilitated peer-based setting to help graduate students from various disciplines revise their writing and meet their writing goals for long-term projects. To participate, group members must be working on a piece of writing continuously over the course of the semester (e.g., a final seminar paper, a Master’s thesis, a dissertation prospectus, a dissertation chapter or set of chapters, etc.).
Each group will meet eight times per semester, and will workshop each group member’s writing on a rotating basis. The writing will be submitted in advance to all group members on a schedule agreed upon by the group. The regular weekly meeting times will also be determined by the group.
