LSA Theme Semesters

One of the chief benefits of a liberal arts college being situated within a premier research university is to create opportunities that blur the lines between classroom and exhibit, curricular and co-curricular.

Presented by the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts, Theme Semesters are a distillation of that very concept, providing intellectual and cultural immersion in a particular topic. Students combine coursework with related activities like lectures, museum exhibits, music or theater performances, film series, and so on. And true to U-M’s public mission, theme semester events are generally open to the public and are done frequently in collaboration with community organizations.

Theme semesters have been an integral part of the teaching and learning experience on campus for more than two decades, connecting the great intellectual and cultural strengths of the University of Michigan to the issues defining our world today.
