BART Application Form
The application form may be downloaded here, or a copy of the form may be requested from the BART office. Please include a copy of a current resume.

Complete Academic Record, includes the following items:
Official transcripts for undergraduate and graduate work completed
GRE Scores (general test only)

A Personal Statement of Interest (1 page)

A Written Research Prospectus
A research prospectus (up to 5 pages) should describe in as much detail as possible the research the student plans to conduct and should emphasize the links between the biosphere and the atmosphere. This proposal should be developed by the student in collaboration with one or more faculty with expertise in both biosphere and atmosphere science. The proposal should also indicate why UMBS is an appropriate site for the proposed research and how the student will be mentored while at UMBS. Please begin with a one paragraph abstract, including 2-3 sentences on how your research will address the biosphere-atmosphere interface.

Two Letters of Reference
Letters from two science professionals with whom the student has worked should describe the student's abilities and past performance.

Two Letters of Support
Letters from two faculty agreeing to serve as the student's mentors should accompany the application. One letter should be from an atmospheric scientist and the other letter from a biospheric scientist. Only one of the mentors must be from the student's home institution.
Please email a copy of the completed application (with resume), personal statement, and research prospectus to the BART Program Office. Documents must be saved as word documents, pdfs, or in rich text format. Transcripts and letters of recommendation and support can be mailed to the following address:
