BART Summer Only Research Fellowships for 2008

BART Summer Only Research Fellowships allow graduate (PhD and Masters) students an opportunity to conduct research at UMBS and learn more about the BART IGERT Program. Currently, summer research fellowships are only available to students at the following institutions:

Indiana University Bloomington, College of  Artsand Sciences students

Ohio State University, Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology students

Purdue University

Western Michigan

University of Michigan, students in the College of Engineering, Department of Ecology Evolutionary Biology, Department of Geological Sciences, and School of Public Health

Summer Research Fellowships Include:

1. STIPEND $2,000/month (June thru August for Ohio State, Purdue University, and May thru August for all other institutions)
2. FUNDS up to $1,500 for equipment or supplies,
3. TRAVEL to UMBS,
4. LODGING/RESEARCHER FEES at UMBS for 9 weeks (June 14th thru August 16th)
5. HEALTH INSURANCE, funds available to help cover costs
6. Opportunity to take Technical Short Courses

 The 2008 application deadline is February 29th, 2008.

To apply for admission, please submit the following:

1. BART Application Form
   The application form may be downloaded or a copy of the form may be requested from the BART office. Please include a copy of a current resume/CV.  
2. Complete Academic Record, includes the following items:
   Official transcripts for undergraduate and graduate work completed
   GRE Scores (general test only)
3. A Written Research Prospectus
   A research prospectus (up to 2 pages) should describe in as much detail as possible the research the student plans to conduct. This proposal should be developed by the student in collaboration with their mentor/advisor. A paragraph should be included describing how the project might, in the future, evolve into one that has a focus on biosphere-atmosphere interactions. The proposal should also indicate why UMBS is an appropriate site for the proposed research and how the student will be mentored while at UMBS. Please begin with a one paragraph abstract.
4. Two Letters of Reference 
   Letters from two science professionals with whom the student has worked should describe the student's abilities and past performance. One of the letters should be from the students mentor/advisor.
