Scholarships & Financial Aid

If you are eligible for financial aid from the University, then apply right away to the UM Financial Aid at http://www.finaid.umich.edu/. The Biological Station also offers scholarships and financial assistance for students who might not otherwise be able to attend the Station. Alumni Society Student Aid Fund
Several awards annually to students at UMBS. Funded by alumni and friends of UMBS.

Douglas Lake Improvement Association Scholarship
A competitive scholarship to fully support a student who is a resident of Northern Michigan to attend the spring or summer session.

Schrank Family Scholarship
One award annually alternating for an LS&A or Program in the Environment (PitE) student.

Frank Caleb & Margaret Thompson Gates Student Endowment
Several annual awards to assist students at UMBS.

James L. Plafkin Memorial Scholarship
An annual need-based award to a student who is studying aquatic ecology.

Howard A. Crum Student Scholarship
Scholarship support students studying at UMBS.

Lowe Family First Summer Student Scholarship
Award to student spending their first summer at UMBS.

Marian P. and David M. Gates Scholarship
Award to assist out-of-state students to study at UMBS.

Gary & Gussie Williams Scholarship Fund
Scholarship for student who is teaching science or pursuing a degree in science education.

Returning Student Award
Awards to returning students who are in their second or subsequent summer at UMBS. Funded by alumni and friends of UMBS.

CIC Traveling Scholar Program
Graduate students at Big 10 schools may take classes at UMBS for the same price as taking classes at their home university (i.e., no out-of-state tuition) through the CIC Traveling Scholar Program. Students should contact the Dean's Office of their Graduate School for more information.
